handoff.ai alternative

A handoff.ai alternative for the half of the job that happens before the AI

Every tool in this corner of the market says AI estimating. Here is the version that is true of this one. A vision model reads the room and a model writes the scope. Your own cost book makes the number, line by line. No model picks the price. Worth knowing before you compare anything else on this page.

No card. Nothing for your customer to install.

First, make sure it is the right Handoff

Two of the results on page one for this phrase are about the Apple feature that passes a call from your phone to your Mac. One is a Wikipedia disambiguation page and one is a wiki stub. Google is not sure which Handoff you mean, so it is worth being clear.

The one you mean is handoff.ai, the AI estimating and business management platform sold to residential remodelers and home builders. That is the product this page is about. If you came looking for why your iPad stopped picking up FaceTime calls, you are in the wrong place.

What handoff.ai does, and where its numbers come from

Their own description: share your scope, blueprints or job photos, and the AI returns a complete estimate, from an AI takeoff or a site walkthrough, with the numbers already built in. Around that sits a CRM, a client portal, change orders, scheduling, daily logs, milestone invoicing and consumer financing. It is a wide product and they are not shy about it.

On price, their pages make two claims at the same time. One is that the pricing is supplier backed, pulled from sixty million tracked SKUs across Home Depot, Lowe's and others, priced by ZIP code rather than national averages. The other is that you can hold your own pricing catalogs, one on the Flex plan and unlimited on Pro. Those are two different answers to the question of whose prices make the number, and which one you are getting depends on your tier and on how much setup you have done.

Which matters, because of what their reviewers say. One complains that it picks prices from stores he does not buy from. Another reports a bid of 7,500 dollars to install and paint eight doors. Others say the rates and quantities come back slightly off and need correcting. Read those for yourself, and notice while you are there that nine of the ten reviews their Capterra listing shows are marked as vendor referred with an incentive offered, and all ten are dated May and June of last year.

Our side of the same question, so you can hold the two together. A vision model reads the photographs. A model writes the scope brief from what it sees. An image model makes the renders. Then the scope is priced against your cost book, line by line, with every quantity traceable to where it came from. Nothing in that chain touches the price. If your labor rate is wrong, it is wrong because you typed it in wrong.

Every page arguing about handoff.ai argues about the same half

Four pages compete for this phrase with something actually to say. Foreman argues the AI output needs significant manual correction and calls it a flat model trained on national averages, which contradicts handoff.ai's own ZIP code claim outright, so one of the two is wrong. TakeoffConvert sells itself at 29 dollars a month on the line that the AI writes the scope and quantities while your saved unit prices set the numbers. SimplyWise has two pages on it. An AI tools blog has a review.

Read them together and they are all having one argument, which is whether the AI's prices can be trusted and what cheaper thing you should buy instead. It is a fair argument to have. It is also entirely about the second half of the job.

Not one page written about handoff.ai asks about the first half.

Where did the blueprint come from

Go back to the input. Share your scope, blueprints or job photos. On a new build there are drawings, so that sentence is doing real work. On a remodel there are usually no drawings at all. The house is forty years old, the bathroom has been redone twice since, and nobody has a plan of any of it.

So where did the dimensions come from? You drove out and measured them. Then you typed the scope in, or photographed the room yourself, and the software picked it up from there. Every tool in this comparison starts at the same moment, which is the moment the measuring is finished. TakeoffConvert wants a Bluebeam or Excel takeoff, which somebody has already done. Foreman reads plans. handoff.ai reads blueprints or the photos you took. All of them improve the part of the job you do sitting down.

The expensive hour is the one before that. The drive out, the tape, the notepad, and the two trips in three that never turn into work. That hour is what this product is pointed at, which is why the table below compares starting points instead of feature lists.

handoff.ai details read off their own site and their Capterra listing in October 2026. Both move, so check before you cancel anything.

What it costs either way

Their tiers, by way of their Capterra listing: Flex at 149 dollars a month with fifty AI credits, two users and one custom pricing catalog. Pro at 299 with five users, unlimited credits and unlimited catalogs. Scale at 899, which is the tier that adds AI takeoffs from residential plans. Pro and Scale carry twelve month commitments. Seven day free trial, no card.

Ours: two scans free with no card, then Solo at 79 a month for one user and 20 scans, Crew at 149 for five users and 60 scans, Shop at 349 for unlimited users and 200 scans. Extra scans are 4 dollars each and nothing locks when you run out. A job one of your own people captures on site is not metered at all on any plan. No commitment either way, and the founding price holds for as long as the account stays active if you start before the thirtieth of November.

Not the same purchase, again. handoff.ai is trying to run your whole business and this runs one step of it. If what you want is one system for everything, that is a real reason to pick theirs, and this page is not going to try to talk you out of it.

Questions contractors ask

Does this replace handoff.ai?

Not all of it. They do CRM, scheduling, invoicing, change orders and financing, and we do none of that. What we replace is the drive out and the measuring, which is the step they assume is already behind you.

Does the AI set the price?

No, and that is the point of the product. A model reads the photographs and writes the scope. The number is arithmetic against your cost book, with every quantity showing where it came from, so you can disagree with any line and see exactly what you are disagreeing with.

Does it measure from a photograph?

No. Nothing here measures from a photograph, and you should be wary of anything that says it does. On a recent iPhone Pro the LiDAR sensor does the measuring. On any other phone your customer types the room sizes in herself and you get her photographs alongside them.

I am already paying for handoff.ai. Can both run?

Yes. The dimensions and the scope come back from the homeowner, and you can carry them into whatever you already use for the proposal and the paperwork. There is a Zapier connection for the CRM side of it.

What does the homeowner have to install?

Nothing at all. She opens the link you send in whatever browser is already on her phone. No app, no account, no password to forget.
